International Day: Canada!

Hello! Bonjour!
The school that our organization is affiliated with had an International Day. The students and teachers are from a variety of countries so each year they have a mini Folklorama. We know some of the Canadian teachers so we were asked to help with the Canada booth. It's funny how one becomes that much more patriotic when one leaves one's county. Vive Le Canada!

Flags to represent the student body.

My  "passport" to International Day.

There were 13 countries represented here this year.
A lot of people came out.
Pakistan had a beautiful display.
The Latinos had the best food!

Texas had it's own booth next to the USA. Maybe we could get a Quebec booth next year...
Indonesia had a lovely display as well.
Here's Canada!
We did Salmon this year. They've done poutine, Nanimo bars and maple leaf sugar cookies in the past.

My husband and I took on the Canadian Playlist. We both love music and I especially love indie Canadian bands. We put together a mix of classic Canadian hits and some new stuff. Et quelques chansons en Français. Here is the playlist:

Some great Canadian artists we didn't play were: Arcade Fire, Metric, Sam Roberts, Sarah McLachlan, K'naan, Neil Young, KD Lang, Alanis Morisette, Snow, Rufus Wainwright, Joni Mitchel, The Guess Who, Tom Cochrane, Adam Cohen, Feist, OLP, Fresh IE, The Constantines, Paul Anka, Bif Naked, Tegan & Sara, Crash Test Dummies, Glass Tiger, Matt Good, Red Moon Road, Lights, Rush, Stars, Two Hours Traffic, Great Lake Swimmers, Austra, Ron Sexsmith, Destroyer, Bryan Adams, Jann Arden, Dj Champion, Nelly Furtado, Ashley MacIsaac, The Tea Party... Any other suggestions?

  1. LOVE your playlist! I miss Moxy Fruvous. (But of course you know that, seeing as how we both have intellectual crushes on Gian Gomeshi.)

You have to add Amelia Curran (my recommendations: Scattered and Small or You Won't Find Me) and Ridley Bent (my recommendations: Suicidewinder or The Devil and Coltrane Henry) to your list of musicians to check out (although Ridley Bent is definitely not child-appropriate, with F-bombs and drug references).

And a great older song is I Lost My Baby by Jean Leloup (mostly in French with an English chorus).

    1. I will definitely check those out! I've always loved Canadian music and being far from home makes you appreciate things like that even more.

Speaking of Jian, I'll have to dl some Q podcasts... I miss his voice... :P

      Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Shoot. I can't believe I misspelled his name. Seriously, I don't deserve him. I guess he's all yours.
